Channel Development Manager – Manufacturing / Retail Packaging

Chicago,Illinois

Job TitleChannel Development Manager

About the Hiring Company

Our client is a U.S.-based manufacturing company with a strong market position and growing momentum in the retail channel. With current tariffs impacting overseas competitors, they are strategically advantaged and investing intentionally in building a scalable retail and direct sales motion, while maintaining strong distributor relationships.

They currently partner with major retailers including Walmart, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby, and are actively expanding into additional categories such as grocery, home improvement, and pet supply retail.

About the Role

As the Channel Development Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to build a new B2B sales channel nearly from the ground up for a product with strong, established demand. This role is focused on developing direct relationships with “super-users” of the company’s packaging products (especially within industries like cosmetics and specialty foods), helping them solve packaging needs while driving major revenue growth.

This is a highly autonomous, high-impact role that will likely report directly to the CEO. Your insights from the market will directly influence company strategy as the business scales its direct sales function.

Responsibilities

· Build and refine a target customer profile for key “Curator” customer segments

· Identify high-value industries and prioritize prospective accounts with the strongest ROI potential

· Prospect consistently (50+ outbound touches per week) and book meetings (goal of 5 meetings/week by 90 days)

· Build a qualified pipeline and manage the full sales cycle from first outreach through close

· Develop pricing proposals and quotes using an internal costing model to ensure healthy margins

· Generate gross margin insights per customer and use that data to support deal strategy

· Manage and grow relationships with large repeat customers through ongoing account management

· Travel to customer sites as needed (estimated ~25% travel depending on account needs)

· Document processes and build a repeatable sales playbook for the Curator segment

· Collaborate cross-functionally with production and internal stakeholders to confirm capabilities, customizations, and timelines

· Learn product and manufacturing details to support customer needs (color matching, compression, dust mitigation, etc.)

Qualifications

· 3 to 5+ years of full-cycle B2B sales experience in a strong sales culture

· Proven ability to build a book of business from scratch and manage long-term client relationships

· Comfortable with consistent cold calling and high outbound activity (25+ calls/day)

· Strong hunter mindset with the discipline to prospect and create opportunities consistently

· Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and comfortable working with minimal sales infrastructure or supervision

· Strong organizational skills and the ability to build systems (including helping implement a CRM)

· Confidence working directly with senior leadership and owning outcomes

· Curiosity and willingness to learn product capabilities, manufacturing constraints, and customer-specific requirements

Benefits

· Competitive base salary plus uncapped commission

· High-visibility role with direct access to leadership and influence on company strategy

· Opportunity to build a new sales channel and create systems from the ground up

· Clear growth potential and structured career path in a scaling organization

· Joyful, collaborative, and transparent culture that values accountability and employee development
