Director – Business Development
Director – Business Development
Remote USA,FloridaAbout the Hiring Company
Our client is a privately owned investment advisory firm with decades of experience helping successful business owners turn the wealth they've created through their businesses into long-term, liquid, and compounding wealth.
The firm takes a disciplined, long-term approach to investing in high-quality public companies and works closely with entrepreneurs and business owners who have built significant wealth. Their approach is relationship-driven and highly selective, focusing on serving a limited number of ideal clients rather than pursuing a high-volume sales model.
The firm is now looking to expand its business development efforts by building relationships with business owners and trusted professional advisors who can introduce high-quality prospective clients.
About the Role
We are seeking a Business Development professional to build a network of ideal prospective clients and referral relationships across the business-owner and high-net-worth community.
This is a strategic, relationship-driven role focused on generating a small number of highly qualified opportunities rather than high-volume prospecting. The ideal candidate will be comfortable developing relationships with business owners and Centers of Influence (COIs), including CPAs, attorneys, investment bankers, business brokers, and M&A advisors.
You will own the front end of the business development process—identifying potential clients, determining fit, educating prospects on the firm's investment philosophy, and preparing senior leadership for closing conversations. The role also includes supporting newly acquired clients during their initial relationship with the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a strong network of business owners and Centers of Influence, including CPAs, attorneys, investment bankers, business brokers, and M&A advisors.
- Develop and execute a strategic referral and COI strategy to consistently generate qualified prospective clients.
- Identify business owners who are approaching or have recently experienced a significant liquidity event.
- Prospect for individuals and business owners who align with the firm's ideal client profile.
- Maintain an organized and accurate prospect pipeline within the CRM.
- Conduct initial meetings with prospective clients to understand their financial circumstances, objectives, and overall fit.
- Qualify prospects before committing senior advisory leadership's time to closing meetings.
- Clearly communicate the firm's services, investment philosophy, and approach so prospective clients can determine whether there is a strong mutual fit.
- Prepare senior leadership for closing meetings by providing relevant prospect background, needs, priorities, and relationship context.
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with prospects and referral sources rather than relying on transactional sales tactics.
- Participate in the onboarding and transition of new clients alongside senior leadership.
- Maintain periodic contact with new clients during their first 18–24 months with the firm.
- Serve as a relationship bridge by routing client questions and issues to the appropriate advisory team members.
- Successfully transition the client relationship to the advisory team following the initial relationship period.
- Participate in weekly investment meetings and ongoing investment research discussions.
- Develop a strong understanding of the firm's investment philosophy, portfolio, and rationale behind investment decisions.
- Represent the firm's investment approach accurately and professionally without overselling or making inappropriate promises.
- Contribute to the continued development of the firm's business development strategy and client network.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in business development, sales, relationship management, or a similar client acquisition role.
- Proven experience selling to or developing relationships with high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, business owners, or senior executives.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and generate business without relying on an inherited pipeline.
- Established network among business owners or professional advisors is strongly preferred.
- Experience developing referral relationships with CPAs, attorneys, investment bankers, business brokers, M&A advisors, or other professional service providers is highly desirable.
- Comfortable managing long sales cycles with a relatively small number of high-value opportunities.
- Strong qualification skills and the ability to distinguish between a prospect and a genuinely qualified fit.
- Self-directed and highly accountable, with the ability to manage a virtual territory and business development activity independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex investment concepts and the firm's philosophy clearly and accurately.
- Strong relationship-building skills with a high degree of professionalism and credibility.
- Series 65 or Series 66 required, or willingness to obtain the appropriate license within 90 days of hire.
- Investment industry experience is not mandatory for the right business development professional.
- Experience working within the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) is a plus.
- Comfortable participating in investment discussions and developing sufficient knowledge of the firm's investment approach to communicate it effectively to prospective clients.
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary and performance-based compensation.
- Fully remote/virtual work environment.
- Opportunity to work directly with senior leadership within a privately owned investment advisory firm.
- High degree of autonomy and ownership over business development strategy.
- Opportunity to build a valuable network of entrepreneurs, business owners, and professional advisors.
- Relationship-driven sales environment focused on quality rather than high-volume transactions.
- Opportunity to work with sophisticated business owners and high-net-worth individuals.
- Exposure to investment strategy, public-market research, and the firm's investment decision-making process.
- Opportunity to develop significant long-term professional relationships and contribute directly to the firm's growth.
- Collaborative environment with an entrepreneurial, ownership-oriented culture.
- Opportunity to play a meaningful role in expanding the firm's ideal client base and referral network.
