Our client is a rapidly growing civil, electrical, and utility-infrastructure services contractor headquartered in Ottawa. They deliver construction, electrical, telecommunications, and related infrastructure services to utilities, developers, government agencies, and general contractors. Backed by two established organizations in the utility and energy services sector, the company is scaling aggressively across Eastern Ontario and is building a stronger business development function to support long-term growth.
About the Role
This Business Development Manager role is responsible for driving net-new revenue across utility, municipal, and infrastructure projects in the Ottawa region, with additional coverage of Kingston and Cornwall. The role is focused on proactive relationship development, long-cycle capital project pursuit, and increasing visibility with key utility and government buyers. This is a hybrid field role with regular client travel.
Responsibilities
· Prospect and generate new business with utilities, municipalities, developers, and infrastructure partners.
· Build, manage, and forecast a high-quality pipeline across short and long sales cycles.
· Lead or support proposal development and RFP responses in coordination with estimating and operations.
· Represent the company at industry events, utility meetings, site visits, and partner engagements.
· Maintain and grow existing client relationships to support repeat business.
· Report on pipeline activity, win/loss outcomes, and strategic priorities to the General Manager.
· Identify new market opportunities to expand the company’s footprint in Eastern Ontario.
· Collaborate with internal partners to structure deals, prepare bids, and ensure alignment on project requirements.
Qualifications
· Five to seven years of business development experience within utilities, construction, civil infrastructure, or electrical contracting.
· Proven experience closing multi-million-dollar deals and managing long (two to three year) sales cycles.
· Demonstrated success in prospecting, relationship building, and securing net-new opportunities.
· Strong proposal development skills and experience working with estimators and operations teams.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
· Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Ottawa, Kingston, and Cornwall.
· Highly self-motivated, resilient, and capable of operating with autonomy.
