There are 146,000 very special citizens in the city of Ottawa: they are the citizens who are children and youths below the age of 14. They are special for they hold the keys to our future, yet these children are growing up in a fast paced world of abundance and conflict, freedom and controls, chaos and simplicity, wealth and poverty.

It is hard to imagine how complex this must seem from a child’s eyes, yet our own long term security and prosperity is heavily impacted by how our children are able to deal with the various opportunities and challenges they face. We owe it to ourselves if not to our children to provide them the best start to their lives. Simply put, the stronger and healthier the start of life for each of the children in our communities, the stronger and healthier are our communities.

Eliot Burdett, founded Peak Sales Recruiting in 2006 with an aim to build community giving directly into its business model. Over the years, Eliot has been involved in several initiatives to support kids and the local community, including the the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Volunteer Ottawa, the Student Tech Venture Challenge and Ride to Survive. Shortly after starting Peak Sales Recruiting, Eliot, a former chair of Junior Achievement Ottawa Carleton, established The Peak Start Fund, a permanent endowment with the Community Foundation of Ottawa focused on the well-being of children in the region. Each year the Fund will support community organizations working on high priority challenges such as children's health and fitness, recreation, security, learning, and skill development. The Fund is directed by Eliot Burdett and his wife, Chay Geauvreau, and managed on their behalf by the Community Foundation of Ottawa.
