Sales Interviews: Do Them in Clumps or One at a Time?

We are often asked whether it is better to arrange a series of sales interviews back to back or interview new candidates as they become available.

The answer is simple. If you have the luxury of having multiple candidates for an open position, meet them all sequentially over the course of a few hours. The advantage of clumping them versus meeting them one at a time over an extended period of time, is that the interviewer is less likely to be affected by mood swings and subjectivity on any particular day and more likely to objectively view all the candidates with an equal eye. The less subjectivity there is in the hiring process, the more likely the right candidate can be selected (assuming the proper criteria have been set and the interview script involves objective questions).
